'The Delight of Movement' at Gallery North

And now for something completely different for Gallery North. Stretching back to cave art, sculptors have attempted to catch our eye by depicting motion. Modern kinetic art traces its roots to American folk art -- from arty weather vanes to wind-up spring-action toys.

Curated by Philip Palmedo, a noted collector of such imaginative creations, "The Delight of Movement: Six Kinetic Sculptors" features assembled abstractions and works of whimsy by Long Island artists Lin Emery, Joseph Esser, Richard Gachot, Anne Lilly, David Smalley and Jeffrey Zachmann.

What does it all mean? Such questions are trivialized in this exhibition, says Palmedo, "by the sheer enjoyment of watching the flowing motions of colorful pieces of metal. . . .
