The Emporium entertainment venue in Patchogue is offering free cab rides this month to help stop drunken driving.
“It’s all about being responsible. Businesses should take a big role in making customers aware of drinking and driving,” said Tim Lorito, co-owner of the more than $3 million establishment that opened in December.
The venue owners purchased $6,000 in vouchers to pay for the taxi rides, which are available for patrons at Emporium and other village bars and restaurants.
Emporium also teamed with Lindy’s Taxi and Bud Light’s drive home safe program to bring attention to drunken driving.
“We are encouraging customers to drive safely. We are bringing awareness to taking a cab,” Lorito said. The taxi ride program will run through St. Patrick’s Day.
“Drunk driving accidents can be prevented if people use common sense and don’t get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking,” Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said in a statement.
