The right isn't destroying the middle class
In the letter "Federation vows to fight union busting" [March 13], Long Island Federation of Labor president John Durso blames everybody but the unions for the problems in Wisconsin. He also misstates the facts quite readily. What he calls a "late-night charade" and "ramming legislation through" were far from that.
Had the Democrats not skipped town, in violation of the law, they could have had the opportunity to work with the Republicans or at least been seen as part of the solution.
His allegation that "the right" wants to destroy the "middle class" is almost pathological. President Barack Obama has as much said on a number of occasions that he wants to redistribute wealth. If Durso took the time to look at the facts, he would see that the rich are left pretty much unscathed, but the middle class will suffer and ultimately disappear in Obama's plans.
Perhaps it is because of the actions of political action groups masquerading as unions that they are losing their cachet and importance.
