In 2010, when Sachem North rolled up 421 points in 11 games, coach Dave Falco often referred to his backfield as “our three-headed monster.” For 2013, you can add one more.

This year’s Flaming Arrows, the No. 2 seed in Suffolk Division I behind defending Long Island champion Floyd, features a quartet of outstanding backs.

“Now, it’s really a four-headed monster,” Falco said of quarterback Trent Crossan, halfbacks Malik Pierre and Kevin Bragaglia and fullback Anthony Ross. “This group rivals the 2010 group with [Michael] Andreassi, Dalton [Crossan] and [Jesse] Scanna. We’ve got a very explosive offense and our offensive line has come along.”

The latter unit is led by center Bryan Gresalfi, one of 22 returning seniors that have the Flaming Arrows dreaming big. “Every year you’ve got the Long Island Championship in mind, but this year we have a lot of returning seniors,” said Crossan, who like Ross is returning from a serious injury in 2012. “We’re all quick and explosive. We all know what we’re doing and that’s the biggest thing. We were so far ahead of schedule in the summer than we were in the past because everyone has done it already.”

What Sachem North hasn’t done is win the county or Long Island championship, a situation the Arrows hope to remedy in 2013.

“This is our last hurrah. We were close when I was in the ninth grade with [his brother] Dalton. Floyd seems to be the team we can’t get past,” Crossan said of the Colonials, who have won the last four Suffolk I titles and eliminated Sachem North in the playoffs each of those seasons. “I think we can play with everyone this year and give everyone a run for their money.”
