The three things that make a good offense lineman
Who wants to be an offensive lineman for the Giants? For offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren, there's three simple rules.
- Move a man from Point A to Point B against his will.
- Secret Service style pass protection, "my life before his"
- Finish.
"If we can get guys doing those three things, we're going to be pretty happy," Bloomgren said Thursday.
Fortunately, the Giants have experience and continuity up front to help make that easy. They return four starters and rookie Francis Mauigoa is continuing to make great adjustments playing right guard after playing tackle at Miami.
Saturday will be Mauigoa's preseason debut. There will be challenges for any rookie facing NFL speed and Mauigoa has a tough task facing a defense led by Vikings' defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
But Bloomgren was pleased with Mauigoa's work so far and how he's handled training camp learning a new position
"His process has been really good. I'm really proud of the way he's preparing," Bloomgren said. "I'm proud of the way he's learned, and his verbal and non-verbal communication with (right tackle) Jermaine (Eluemunor) and our centers has been really good. So, really proud of what he's done so far. Excited to see him get to participate, whether it's a preseason game or the joint practice next week."
