KEY EVENT: Interest piqued. The timing of when to raise interest rates has become a matter of increasing debate for the Federal Reserve, with two of the voting board's 10 members casting rare dissenting votes against the current low interest rate policy at last month's Fed meeting. Wall Street and economists are eagerly awaiting Wednesday's release of the Fed's meeting minutes to see if the influence of "hawks" who want to raise rates is growing.

MONDAY: Earnings from storage products retailer the Container Store and wireless communications provider CalAmp.

TUESDAY: Consumer credit for August from the Federal Reserve. In the prior report, for July, consumers increased their borrowing by $26 billion, a record increase for one month. Earnings: Daytona International Speedway owner International Speedway, Taco Bell owner Yum Brands.

WEDNESDAY: Earnings from Alcoa, Costco Wholesale, agricultural products provider Monsanto and casual- dining chain Ruby Tuesday.

THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended Oct. 4 from the Labor Department. Also, wholesale trade for August from the Census Bureau. Earnings: PepsiCo.

FRIDAY: Import and export prices for September from the Labor Department. Earnings: industrial and construction supplies seller Fastenal.
