Rangers trade Andy Bathgate

With their record 19-30-8 and facing a second straight season without making the playoffs, the Rangers dealt captain and then all-time leading scorer Andy Bathgate (729 points) and center Don McKenney to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Bill Collins, Dick Duff, Bob Nevin, Arnie Brown and Rod Seiling. Though the key players the Rangers acquired were relatively productive, the Blueshirts finished the season 22-38-10 and missed the playoffs. Meanwhile, Bathgate scored the deciding goal for the Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals as Toronto outlasted Detroit.
