Yankees extend HR streak to 18 games

In their 5-4 win over the Tigers before 27,072 at Yankee Stadium, the Bombers established a record by hitting at least one homer in 18 consecutive games. Joe DiMaggio (2-for-5) hit a solo shot off Hal Newhouser in the sixth inning, which broke the major-league mark previously held by the Tigers. Red Rolfe added a ninth-inning blast off Bobo Newsom. The streak would eventually reach 25 games before being snapped by the Red Sox on July 1. The Yankees led the league with 151 homers that season.
