Youth was served as the Mets' 19-year-old first baseman, Ed Kranepool, went deep twice against 18-year-old Phillies starter Rick Wise in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Though the Mets lost, 6-4, Kranepool was 2-for-3 with a walk and hit solo home runs in the first and eighth innings. He'd gone 0-for-3 in the team's 6-1 loss in the first game. Wise, who signed in '63, improved to 4-1 with the win. He and Kranepool went on to play 18 seasons each in the majors.
