Horace Clarke ends no-hitter in ninth

Yankees second baseman Horace Clarke singled with one out in the top of the ninth and broke up a no-hitter by Detroit's Joe Niekro in the Tigers' 5-0 win. It was the third time in 28 days that Clarke broke up a no-hitter in the ninth inning. He broke up no-hitters by Kansas City's Jim Rooker on June 4 and Boston's Sonny Siebert on June 19.
