Marquard wins 19th in a row
Rube Marquard extended his record of consecutive victories to 19 and the Giants pushed their winning streak to 16 when the lefty beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds. The previous record for consecutive victories was 16, shared by Walter Johnson and Joe Wood. Marquard, a Hall of Famer, went 26-11 with a 2.57 ERA that year.
