Rivera gets Yankees saves record
Mariano Rivera recorded his 225th save in the Yankees' 3-1 win over the Devil Rays at Tropicana Field to surpass Dave Righetti's franchise mark set in 1990. Rivera allowed two hits and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings to earn his 10th save of the season. Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez gave up just one hit and two walks and struck out five in 7 2/3 innings, outpitching Joe Kennedy for the win. The Yankees were led by Derek Jeter (3-for-4) and Jason Giambi, each of whom homered. That season Rivera, 32, battled shoulder and groin injuries. He pitched in just 45 games and had a 2.74 ERA with 28 saves.
