Dr. J and Nets set records in loss

Julius "Dr. J" Erving scored a career-high 63 points against the Conquistadors in San Diego but the Nets fell, 176-166, in quadruple overtime. The teams' combined 342 points set an ABA record. Erving, who scored 18 of his points in the overtimes, surpassed his previous career high of 58, which he'd set with the Virginia Squires. The loss dropped the Nets to 40-15 and Erving went on to average 27.9 points that season and won his second MVP.
