Knicks finally win a season opener

The Knicks ended a string of five straight season-opening losses with a 134-130 overtime win over the Charlotte Hornets before a crowd of 24,101 in Charlotte, N.C. The Knicks shot 57 percent from the field and made 37 of 52 free-throw attempts while the Hornets went to the line 32 times, making 27. Patrick Ewing led the Knicks with 38 points and had 12 rebounds and blocked seven shots. Gerald Wilkins added 25 points, Mark Jackson scored 22 and had seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals and Charles Oakley grabbed 15 rebounds. Armen Gilliam led the Hornets with 23 points.
