Mantle named MVP

Mickey Mantle had just five hits in 19 at-bats in the 1957 World Series as the Yankees lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in seven games. But the Yankees centerfielder earned some individual hardware that season, as he won his second straight American League Most Valuable Player award. Mantle finished the season batting .365 (second only to Ted Williams' .388), with 34 homers and 94 RBIs. He also had a .512 on-base percentage due in large part to his league-high 146 walks. He hit into just five double plays and reached base more times (319) than he made outs (312). It was the fourth straight year a Yankee won the AL MVP, as Yogi Berra took the award in 1954 and 1955.
