Rangers and Nordiques net a record
Fans who didn't make it back to their seats after the second intermission missed the two fastest goals to start a period in the Rangers' 4-4 tie with the host Quebec Nordiques. The Nordiques took a 3-1 lead just eight seconds into the third period on Andre Savard's goal. The Rangers wasted little time retaliating as Pierre Larouche made it 3-2 just six seconds later with his second goal of the game. The two goals in 14 seconds snapped the previous NHL mark of 26 seconds set Jan. 3, 1983, by the Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues. The scoring didn't end there as Don Maloney and Mark Pavelich followed with goals to put the Rangers ahead 4-3 before Peter Stastny tied the game with 3:45 remaining.
