Islanders win 15th straight game
John Tonelli scored with 47 seconds left to lift the Islanders over the Colorado Rockies, 3-2, for their NHL-record 15th straight win. The goal came off former Islanders goalie Chico Resch, who played his first game at Nassau Coliseum since being traded. Don Lever's second-period goal had tied the score at 2 for the Rockies. The Islanders, eventual Stanley Cup champions that year, started the streak Jan. 21 against the Penguins. The streak ended the following day with a 4-3 loss to the Penguins.
