Chamberlain scores 100 vs. Knicks
Philadelphia Warriors star Wilt Chamberlain put forth the greatest offensive performance in NBA history, scoring a record 100 points in a 169-147 win against the visiting Knicks in Hershey, Pa., before a tiny crowd of 4,124. Chamberlain, a 7-1 center, shattered his own record of 78 points, set earlier that season. He hit 36 of 63 field-goal attempts and the career 51-percent free throw shooter connected on 28 of 32 from the line. Chamberlain, who also had 25 rebounds, dominated in the paint with his signature fall-away jump shot. He went on to average 50.4 points per game that season. Richie Guerin led the Knicks with 39 points and Cleveland Buckner had 33.
