Boone blasts
Aaron Boone hit a walk-off homer to leftfield leading off the bottom of the 11th to give the Yankees a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the ALCS before a crowd of 56,279 at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees trailed 4-0 and were down 5-2 heading into the eighth when Derek Jeter doubled and scored on Bernie Williams' single. Hideki Matsui followed with a double and Jorge Posada tied the game with another double. Mariano Rivera pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and struck out three to earn the win. The Yankees would lose to the Florida Marlins in six games in the World Series.
