Rod Gilbert gets his 1,000th point
The Rangers' Rod Gilbert notched his 1,000th career point with a goal in a 5-2 loss to the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. The right wing reached the milestone in his 1,027th game, scoring at 12:01 in the second period to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. He got his 999th point in the first period, assisting on Mike McEwen's goal. After Gilbert's goal, the Islanders rallied for four answered, including two from Clark Gillies. In what was his second to last season, Gilbert, 35, had 75 points (27 goals). He finished his career with 1,021 points.
