The first NYC Marathon

Gary Muhrcke, a New York City firefighter, won the first New York City Marathon, which at the time was four-plus laps around Central Park. In a field of 126, only 55 crossed the finish line, none faster than Muhrcke, who did it in 2 hours, 31 minutes, 38 seconds.
