Jets beat Dolphins in a shootout
Ken O'Brien's 43-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Walker at 2:35 of overtime ended one of the highest scoring games in NFL history as the Jets defeated the Miami Dolphins, 51-45, at Giants Stadium. O'Brien passed for 479 yards and four touchdowns, all to Walker, who had six catches for 194 yards. Johnny Hector ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Miami's Dan Marino passed for 448 yards and three touchdowns as the two quarterbacks set a record with 884 combined net yards passing. The Jets had 581 total yards and 32 first downs to the Dolphins' 485 yards and 27 first downs. The win was the first of nine straight for the Jets, who would be 10-1 before losing their last five games. The Jets' season ended with a 23-20 overtime loss to Cleveland in the divisional round of the playoffs.
