Andy Hawkins pitches 'no-hitter' in loss
Andy Hawkins of the Yankees pitched the sixth "no-hitter" in the majors this season and the third in less than 48 hours, but lost 4-0 to the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. While originally being called a no-hitter, in 1991 MLB redefined a no-hitter as "an official game in which a pitcher, or pitchers, gives up no hits" and goes at least nine innings. With two outs in the eighth inning, the White Sox loaded the bases on an error by third baseman Mike Blowers and two walks. All three runners scored when Jim Leyritz misplayed Robin Ventura's fly to left. Ventura would come around to score on rightfielder Jesse Barfield's error on a ball hit by Ivan Calderon.
