Islanders win 15th straight game

John Tonelli scored with 47 seconds left to lift the Islanders over the Colorado Rockies, 3-2, for their NHL-record 15th straight win. The goal, assisted by Mike McEwen and Bryan Trottier, came off former Islanders goalie Chico Resch, who played his first game at Nassau Coliseum since the trade. Don Lever's second-period goal had tied the score at 2 for the Rockies. The Islanders, eventual Stanley Cup champions that year, went on a 15-0 run dating to a Jan. 21 win against the Penguins. The streak ended the following day with a 4-3 loss to the Penguins.
