Giants hit five homers in an inning

The New York Giants blasted a major league-record five home runs in the fourth inning of a 17-3 win against the Cincinnati Reds at the Polo Grounds. Harry Danning's dinger put New York up 7-0, then Frank Demaree hit a three-run homer. They later hit three in succession when Burgess Whitehead smashed a two-run shot, winning pitcher Manny Salvo followed with an inside-the-park homer, and Jo-Jo Moore made it 14-0. Moore later added another homer (his second of the season) and Mel Ott had one to give the Giants a club-record seven in the game. The game lasted just 2 hours, 33 minutes despite all the offense. The Giants went on to hit a National League-high 116 home runs that season.
