This week's softball top 10

1. Bay Shore (11-0)

After a 3-0 win over Sachem East to start the week and a 2-0 victory over Longwood on 4/20, Bay Shore’s offense exploded in a 14-3 win over Floyd on April 23rd. Cat Franzone, who’s been an offensive standout all year, led the way with career-highs in home runs (three) and RBIs (seven). The game was only the second time this year that Bay Shore’s been scored against. The Marauders have now outscored opponents 107-7.

2. East Meadow (10-0)

The Jets continue to soar. They're off to a perfect start in Conference AA-I and stars Lindsay McKillop, Brittany Anghel and Hillary Hoffman headline a well-rounded roster. Last week they had impressive wins over Baldwin and MacArthur. For the season, East Meadow has outscored opponents 79-7.

3. Commack (9-1)

Outscored its opponents 39-5 this week, with wins over Lindenhurst, Central Islip and Whitman. Michelle Andrews threw a one-hitter in the 21-0 win over Central Islip.

4. East Islip (9-0)

Beat Copiague 15-0 and West Babylon 3-0 this week to stay perfect on the year.

5. Long Beach (10-2)

The defending Class AA champions improved to 10-2 on Saturday with a 5-0 win over Kellenberg in non-league. Haley Birnbaum, who continues to demonstrate that she’s fully recovered from the shoulder tendonitis that plagued her last year, pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

6. Sachem East (8-2)

Picked up their second loss of the season on 4/19, this time to Bay Shore. The only teams Sachem has lost to this year have been Commack and Bay Shore, both ranked on this list.

7. Seaford (12-1)

With nine straight wins, the Vikings find themselves in a familiar position: atop the ABC-I standings. Last week they beat Bethpage and Clarke and, in a 3-2 thriller against Oyster Bay on Friday, Erika Nogan out-dueled fellow ace Kerri Apicella.

8. Hauppauge (11-0)

12-0 win over Rocky Point on 4/21 and a 6-1 defeat of Westhampton on 4/22 keep Hauppauge atop Suffolk Class A. They’ve only allowed seven runs in 11 games this year.

9. Hicksville (12-2)

The Comets have won nine straight and hold a three-game lead in Conference AA-III. In three games last week they outscored their opponents 54-9.

10. St. Anthony's (10-1)

Sophomore Amanda LaRocca pitched a five-inning no-hitter in her second varsity win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against St. Mary’s on April 22. Michelle Carbone, who usually dominates in the circle, did so from the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
