Thomas Sarant took second place with 272 points and Matt McKeown (271) finished third as Massapequa captured the New York State regional small bore rifle championship at West Point Saturday with 1,077 points.

Julie Kapuvari and Erin Kohler each shot 267 in the competition for the Chiefs.

Section VIII finished second overall in the small bore competition with 1,572 points.

Section VI (1,572) won the section championship by virtue of a tiebreaker.

Massapequa completed the sweep in team competition, taking the air rifle championship with 1,131 points.

Kapuvari finished fourth with 285 and Sarant took fifth with 284 points for Massapequa, which finished ahead of second and third-place finishers Alden (1,094) and Central Square (1,088).

Kohler (283) and McKeown shot 279 in air rifle for the Chiefs.

Other Long Island top finishers in air rifle included Valley Stream District's Kristen Mantel, who finished second with 291 and Bellmore-Merrick's Sydney Goldschlag, who was third with 285 points.

Section VIII took first overall in air rifle, with a state record 1,707 points.
