The Chicago Bears promoted offensive line coach Mike Tice to offensive coordinator Friday, replacing the departed Mike Martz. The move came less than a week after the Bears completed a disappointing 8-8 season. They parted with Martz, who had an expiring contract, on the same day general manager Jerry Angelo was fired.

This will be the first coordinator job for Tice, who just completed his second season as the Bears' line coach. Tice, a former star at Central Islip High School, spent the previous four seasons as an assistant in Jacksonville and was the head coach in Minnesota for four years after serving as the Vikings' offensive line and tight ends coach.

Video to aid injury treatment

The NFL will begin using video monitors on each team's sideline this weekend to help treat injuries. In a memo sent to the 32 teams and obtained by The Associated Press, the league said the monitors will be used to "allow the medical staff to review the network video of any play during which a player was injured." To ensure the equipment is used for checking video of injuries and not for competitive reasons, only a team physician or head athletic trainer can view it. -- AP
