Editor's Note: Community journalist T.C. McCarthy is spending the entire week in Hicksville, visiting hamlet favorites and talking to residents.

For my third day in Hicksville I am all over the place. I am hoping to meet with an 85-year-old resident who has lived in the same house in the hamlet his whole life. He has seen everything from the suburbanization of farmland to the widening of Broadway, a sore topic with everyone I’ve spoken to on the subject.

Also, be on the lookout for a story at some point this week about the Sweet Shop, which has excellent chocolate ice cream and egg creams, by the way. I sat down with owner Phil Zouros, who has been the shop’s owner since 1974. He went through its history with me, and I even had the opportunity to sit down with one young man who was enjoying his first-ever root beer float.

I’m also hoping to catch up with some Indian restaurant owners and find out why Hicksville is good for their businesses.

I’ll be tweeting throughout the day, so be sure to follow me @TC_McCarthy. Send me your story ideas at tc.mccarthy@newsday.com. I want to hear from you!
