Today, I’m in Hampton Bays for the first of five days focusing on this community at the mouth of the South Fork.

Throughout the week, I’ll talk with everyone from civic leaders to people I run into on the street about what makes Hampton Bays special to those who live and work there. I plan to see what’s going on in the schools and check out local businesses, including the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, where I’ll spend some time tomorrow to see all the work they do.

Today, you can follow our live updates through this post as I take photos around town and work on a story about the history of Hampton Bays.

As always, I welcome your input. Tell me what you want to see in photos, who you want me to talk to and where you want me to go. You can reach me via email, Twitter and the comments below, and keep up with my travels via Storify.
