It’s my last day in Northport, and boy, it’s been quite a journey.

As far as today goes, I’ll be at the farmers market until 1 p.m., so be sure to catch me at the end of Main Street near the harbor for that.

I will be updating this blog post with feed of Instagram photos from the market. If you have any last-minute suggestions, feel free to reach out to me by email at brittany.wait@newsday.com. Follow me on Twitter, as well.

Looking back on this week, taking a tour of the harbor with Dave Weber Jr., of Seymour’s Boatyard was a perfect start, along with walking down Main Street with Mayor George Doll and dropping in at Caffe Portofino about four times each day for a caffeine fix.

I learned more about the running culture in Northport than I ever thought possible simply by taking a 5-mile walk along the last part of the Great Cow Harbor 10K route with a friendly bunch that meet up to walk together on Wednesday mornings.

I have to thank Heather Johnson, director of the Northport Historical Society, for her help quickly digging up historic photos and information for me, even when she was busy. It was great checking out the two exhibits, “Our Stories: The History of a Community” and “The Lives and Works of Northport’s Early Photographers.”

(If you’re interested in heirlooms and antiques, well, you’re in luck. The historical society’s Northport Heirloom Antiques Weekend is Nov. 1-3. For more information on the antique-filled weekend, contact the historical society at info@northporthistorical.org.)

As for everyone else, I thank you for being so helpful throughout the week. I tasted great food, found myself with great company and was lucky enough to have the best weather.

Don’t forget to read all about the walking club, a feature on Gil Harris, a 73-year-old Northporter who received his high school diploma recently, and a story later on Tim’s Shipwreck Diner.

Other than that, Northport, I wish you a fond farewell. Till next time.
