Hempstead Town is accepting entries for the 2013 Triathlon, entering its 29th season.

The town’s late-summer triathlon features swimming, biking and running and has emerged as one of Long Island’s signature athletic events. The competition is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, at 8 a.m. in Town Park Point Lookout.

The triathlon begins with a three-quarter-mile ocean swim. After emerging from the surf, competitors set off on a 10-mile bike ride through the streets of Point Lookout and Lido Beach. The final leg of the triathlon is a 5-mile run to the finish line at Town Park.

Championship trophies will be presented to the overall men’s and women’s winners. There also will be awards for the top male and female finishers in 10 age categories. Each participant will receive a souvenir T-shirt and a special race memento.

Entry applications are available through the town’s Department of Parks and Recreation at 516-292-9000, ext. 219. Registration fees are $44 for a town resident, $66 for a nonresident and $22 for a town senior or veteran. The deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 30.
