Town of Hempstead sanitation commissioner retiring
The Town of Hempstead sanitation commissioner is hanging up his gloves.
Richard Ronan, 70, of Merrick, who has been Hempstead’s sanitation commissioner since 1992, announced this summer that he intended to retire so that he and his wife, Virginia, could do some travelling.
Ronan said he’ll also use some of this new-found time to indulge in some hobbies like trout fishing, wood working and staining glass.
Hempstead Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby presented him a citation for his service at his retirement party on Nov. 19 at the New Hyde Park Inn.
He will be succeeded by Louis DeGrazia, the former superintendent of public works for the Village of Freeport.
