The Town of Smithtown Monday was to receive $300,000 in county funds to address persistent flooding problems in some sections of town.

The funds, drawn from a quarter-cent county sales tax for drinking water preservation, will reimburse Smithtown for ongoing efforts to remediate groundwater flooding, according to the office of County Legis. John Kennedy (R-Nesconset).

Kennedy was to announce the grant Monday morning in a meeting with town officials at Smithtown Town Hall.

Town and county officials are to discuss plans for lowering the chronically elevated water table in the southeast section of Smithtown.
