Town seeks public input on council districts

The redistricting committee for the Town of North Hempstead will seek public input on possible revisions to the boundaries of the town’s six council districts at a meeting Monday, town officials said.

The committee’s second public meeting is scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, 220 Plandome Rd., Manhasset. The town plans to stream the meeting live online and provide the plans on its website.

The committee has scheduled a work session for  2 p.m. June 4 at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park. The public can observe the session.

The nine-member committee is made up of one appointee tapped by each council member and three by Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman.

The group, led by Kaiman appointee John Riordan, a retired judge, is charged with analyzing council district boundaries following the 2010 census and proposing changes to the map, if necessary, by June 15. The town board would have to approve new district lines.

The town board has a majority of Democrats.
