BOYS TOP 5

1. St. Anthony’s – The Friars moved back into the top spot after dominating the CHSAA League championships on Saturday. Always considered a school with standout distance and middle distance runners like Thomas Diliberto and Payton Hazzard, St. Anthony’s also won the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Junior Kames Adegbite won the races in 11.14 and 22.62, respectively. The Friars also took home the 110 hurdles, the 800 and the 400.

2. Longwood – Longwood’s drop wasn’t due to anything negative. But the Lions could make a move back to the top if they finish strong at the Suffolk Division championships. Mark Jackson won the Division I 100-meter preliminary on Monday in 10.9 seconds. Joe Fuller won the Division I 800-meter title.

3. Hills West – Hills West proved its mettle at the Suffolk Division championships on Monday, particularly in the sprints. Abdias Myrtil had the fastest time of any runner in the 100-meter preliminary, winning in 10.86. Hill West is the favorite in the 200 and has a shot to win the 400, too.

4. Smithtown West – Smithtown West ended Day 1 of the Division championships in first place. To hold on to that spot and their place in the top 5, they will need a strong performance at Day 2 of the Division championships on Wednesday.

5. Baldwin – Baldwin has proven to be one of the most versatile teams on Long Island. Aside from having quality sprinters and 400-meter runners (Jarek Babb, Justin Mahoney), the Bruins also have the best discus and shot put thrower on Long Island in Ieshawn Johnson.

GIRLS TOP 5

1. St. Anthony's – The Friars strengthened their hold on the top spot after a big-time performance at the CHSAA League championships. Olicia Williams won the 800 and 400-meter dashes and ran the third leg of the winning 4x400-meter team. Katie Gallagher was also a winner, taking the long and high jump titles.

2. Garden City – The depth the Trojans possess is impressive. Eighth-graders Emma Gallagher and Jennifer Gerland have had great seasons, while the senior leadership by Michelle Rotondo and Taryn Schmelzinger has also been impressive.

3. Bay Shore – Bay Shore has been steady. Thanks to standout performances by Jessica Gelibert at the Eddy Games on Saturday and at Day I of the Division championships on Monday. Alexis Barrau also had a strong day, taking the Division I triple jump title on Tuesday.

4. North Shore – The Vikings are on course to win big at the Nassau County championships on Wednesday. With Samantha Nadel and Brianna Nerud pacing the distance races, North Shore is in great shape to win another title.

5. Kellenberg – Kellenberg could move up on this list if it has a strong performance at the CHSAA Intersectional on Saturday. Michelle Anthony won the 100-meter hurdle title at the League championships and finished second in the 200. Kim Mackay won the 400 hurdles, while Ordine Belot won the triple jump at the League championships and Natalie Jean the discus and shot put.
