BOYS
1. Longwood – Longwood steps into the No.1 spot after a standout performance at the North Shore Invitational. Joe Fuller won the 400-meter dash in a career-best 48.7 seconds. Longwood has proved it can score in nearly every event and even has an 11-6 pole vaulter.
2. St. Anthony's – The Friars dropped one place, but this doesn’t make them any less dangerous as a team. Armed with great field event athletes and a solid middle distance crew, St. Anthony’s could still end up No.1 at season’s end.
3. Hills West – The Colts are still a force on the Island. They have an excellent and very versatile relay crew and quality sprinters.
4. Smithtown West – Outside of a league loss to Hills West early in the season, Smithtown West has been rolling. Few teams can boast to have a more complete squad.
5. Baldwin – The Bruins have really been hitting their stride lately. They have a big time discus and shot put contingent led by Ieshawn Johnson. Baldwin’s 4x400 team could be the best on the Island. They won the event at the North Shore Invitational in a school-record time of 3:18.5.
GIRLS
1. St. Anthony's – St. Anthony’s will be the team to beat at the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA League championship and at the Intersectional. The Friars got a big effort from star runner Olicia Williams, who won the 800 at the North Shore Invitational in 2:07.8. It’s the second fastest time in the state this season. The Friars also have a great jumper in Katie Gallagher and a great distance crew.
2. Garden City – The Trojans had a great showing at the Loucks games. Eighth-grader Emma Gallagher took third place in the 800 in 2:10.80 and 4th in the 400 with a 57.12, while Michelle Rotondo finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.87 into a strong headwind and then came back less than an hour later to help GC win the 4x800 in a time of 9:13.26.
3. Bay Shore – Bay Shore is still there and could be the favorite to capture the Division I title. The versatility of Jessica Gelibert and Essence Rogers has made the Marauders into a tough bunch.
4. North Shore – North Shore has quietly emerged as a solid all-around squad. Brianna Nerud and Samantha Nadel alone can keep the Vikings close in a meet. Emily Osman and Elizabeth Caldwell have also been instrumental on the Vikings success this year.
5. Kellenberg – The Firebirds have an awful lot of talent in key events. Michelle Anthony could emerge as the top 100-meter hurdler on Long Island. Kim Mackay is beginning to get back into championship form in the 800.
