Behind Vicki Trezise and Alex DeVries' usual strong showings and a breakout performance from Tara Bernocco, Islip defeated East Islip, 939-929, 994-907, 939-936 in girls bowling Tuesday. It was the powerhouse's first league loss since 2001.

"Wow, it was great," Islip coach Glenn Drago said. "It's good to see them bowl well against [maybe] the best team on Long Island."

Trezise and DeVries rolled 667 and 643 series, respectively. But what put Islip over the top, Drago said, was Bernocco's 199 in both Games 2 and 3.

East Islip, which holds a county-best 1,007.21 team average, didn't do badly. Nikki Wilson rolled a 586 series, Tara Ernst 576 and Kelsey Fryer 566.

"We bowled well, but they bowled better," EI coach Harold Cooley said.
