Four-time defending state Class B champion Garden City has been quiet in terms of Long Island games in the early season, the Trojans have played only one LI opponent thus far (Friends Academy), but this weekend the team headed south and defeated two of Maryland’s best.

Garden City defeated Mt. Hebron 12-10 on Friday behind six goals and two assists from Caroline Tarzian. Tarzian was again the hero today, scoring the game-winner with 1:37 remaining in regulation as the Trojans defeated South River 12-11.

According to the latest laxpower rankings, Mt. Hebron is ranked No. 11 in Maryland and South River No. 21. Mt. Hebron is a national powerhouse and won 15 of 16 possible state titles from 1991-2007. In the latest ESPN Rise National FAB 50, Garden City is No. 6, Mt. Hebron No. 21

Garden City returns to LI play this week, against Syosset on Tuesday.
