A truck hauling a power transformer crashed on the Long Island Expressway Thursday night, backing up traffic as authorities waited to remove debris, Suffolk police said.

The transformer fell onto the westbound lanes by Exit 60 in Lake Ronkonkoma about 7 p.m., police said. The crash shut down the three main lanes, but traffic was able to move past on the HOV lane and the HOV shoulder.

By 9 p.m., only the right lane and ramp remained closed, police said. Other details, including what caused the crash, were not immediately available, police said.
