Turturro triggers Farmingdale's 7th title in row

In scientific terms, Amanda Turturro applied force. In less scientific terms, Farmingdale had momentum.

Turturro's speed translated to quick, powerful shots and five goals as the No. 1 Dalers took a commanding lead and never relented, defeating Massapequa, 15-7, to win their seventh straight Nassau girls lacrosse Class A title, Wednesday night at Adelphi.

"A lot, it helps a lot," Turturro said of her quickness, adding that winning by a big margin was "a huge step in the right direction." Turturro, who has a team-high 35 assists, exploited the Chiefs' heavy coverage of the Dalers' Colleen Reynolds and Kim Kolodny, to score the opening two goals.

"We talk about that all the time," coach Shari Campbell said. "We put her in a position where, if she sees a double team, she recognizes the different options."

Reynolds' overhand dodge with 17:12 left gave Farmingdale a five-goal advantage. Her feed to Kolodny about eight minutes later made it 8-1.

Rory Sadoff and Kelsey O'Brien scored within 90 seconds of each other to draw the second-seeded Chiefs (15-3) to within 8-3 at the half but Turturro's bouncer with 10:27 left gave the Dalers a 14-5 lead.

Farmingdale will play the winner of Ward Melville vs. Bay Shore in the Long Island Championship on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Dowling Sports Complex.
