TV has Freddy Monday singing
Freddy Monday has plenty of reasons to be upbeat.
The Babylon-based singer-songwriter has seen his songs licensed in TV shows ranging from "The Young and the Restless" to "Burn Notice." His previous album, "I Want to Be Your Davy Jones," was just rereleased by Nashville's 5x5 Records with some previously unreleased tracks. And the Casper Van Dien movie "Born to Ride" is set to premiere Sunday with a Monday original serving as the movie's title track.
It's no wonder his new album, "Everything Anyhow," sounds so happy.
"It's exactly the record I was going for," Monday says. "I'm really enjoying it."
Songs like "Rain All Day," with its playful piano-pop chorus, and the country-tinged "Please" feel like they could have been released any time in the past four decades.
"I've already heard that there are radio stations on Long Island and in Austria that are playing 'Rain All Day,' " Monday says.
Monday says he's thrilled that his music is getting heard, both on the album and through the TV shows. "It's all really my style getting heard," he says. "I'm being true to myself. The song for the movie was different because I had to write it for a scene and it needed to have a heavier sound."
There is one small issue.
"The hardest part is that sometimes I don't hear that my song was used until two weeks later and then I have to try and look it up online to see how much they used and how," he says. "But it's all cool."
Freddy Monday plays The Fishery, 1 Main St., East Rockaway, 516-256-7117, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
