'Two Brothers,' 'Secret Messages'

'TWO BROTHERS, TWO VIEWS'

WHAT "Two Brothers, Two Views" juxtaposes the artwork of two native Long Island sons of the late watercolorist Charles Blake Sr. Charles Jr., who stuck closer to home -- he lives in Oak Beach -- was more influenced by his natural surroundings, including family and friends. His paintings and three-dimensional works evolved from narrative fantasies inspired by dreams to more whimsical themes. A recurring theme these days is the ordinary screw on which he zooms in for a swirling Pop Art effect. Meanwhile, Robert Blake, a world traveler, creates intense abstracts in both figurative and landscape realms. Recent paintings followed a visit to the former concentration camps in Auschwitz and Birkenau.

'SECRET MESSAGES'

WHAT In "Secret Messages," a group of artists incorporates codes -- from Braille to computer language -- in their works. It complements a history exhibit in one of the galleries deciphering codes associated with Long Island, including spy signals used in communicating with Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War and DNA code developed at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
