Two charged when driver hits car stopped for DWI in Albertson, police say
State Police had just arrested an alleged drunken driver with a child passenger on a highway in Albertson Thursday when a second motorist rammed into the first driver's parked car and fled, authorities said.
Both drivers were charged with driving under the influence Thursday night after police caught up with the second driver, who tried to flee on the Northern State Parkway, State Police said in a news release.
A state trooper had clocked Rory Tringali of Plainview going 26 mph over the speed limit and stopped him near the Willis Avenue exit, according to the release.
Tringali, who was traveling with a woman in the front seat and a child in the back, failed sobriety tests, according to State Police.
Tringali, 38, of 60 Jad Ct., was charged with aggravated DWI, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said.
Around 11 p.m., Madeline Safrey, 25, struck Tringali's black Nissan, narrowly missing an officer standing on the parkway shoulder, police said.
She fled but the trooper found her and pulled her over a few minutes later, police said.
Safrey, 25, of 270 Fairhaven Blvd., who tested at more than twice the legal limit of alcohol, was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident, authorities said.
