While the people of New York sat stranded on trains, buses or in their homes, unable to get the essential services they needed due to the recent paralyzing blizzard, Transport Workers Union Local 100 president John Samuelsen chose to continue to play partisan politics, pointing fingers at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority when many of his members and thousands of New Yorkers needed him most.

What he should have done is called MTA chairman Jay Walder, telling him we have an emergency here, let's put our differences aside for now, roll up our sleeves (like Newark Mayor Cory Booker) and get to work making sure my people are safe and the people of New York have their trains and buses back ASAP.

Samuelsen did nothing but complain. As a proud TWU member and hardworking train operator, I wish to apologize to the people of New York for the inaction of my union leader during this crisis. We can, should and will do better in the future.
