Thanks to strong showings in the relays, the Uniondale boys and girls track teams were able to successfully defend their home turf.
Uniondale took home both the boys and girls team championships Thursday in the Knight Time Invitational. The boys won with a team score of 180 points, while the girls scored 196.
The team of Davon Henry, Derrick Ingram, Will Stanback, and Tresean Goodwin won the boys 4 x 100 in 42.86 seconds, defeating Mount Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top relay teams. Ingram, Henry, Stanback and Goodwin also took the sprint medley relay (1:34.83).
"We had a nice early-season time, and I'm pleased with that," Uniondale coach Dennis Kornfield said of the 4 x 100. "We're going to try to build on that and look forward to the Penn Relays."
Meanwhile, the shuttle hurdle relay team of Nyder Chardonnette, Chris Armour, Roren Aitcheson and Britt Webley won in 64.18 seconds.
Armour led the way in the individual events, winning the 110 high hurdles (15.86) and the long jump (20-4) in his first meet back after missing most of the winter season because of injury.
The girls meet featured a matchup of two of the nation's top shuttle hurdle relay teams in Uniondale and Kellenberg. Uniondale's team of Brittney Webley, Adrionna Powell-Lawrence, Crystal Green and Tawanda Francis won in 60.37 seconds. Kellenberg took second in 61.66 seconds.
