Uniondale's Forsythe takes triple jump

Uniondale's Glen Forsythe was the big winner Tuesday night at the Eastern States championships at the 168th Street Armory.

The senior jump specialist took first in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 4 1/2 inches.

The St. Anthony's 4 x 800 team also had a big night as Thomas Diliberto, Tim Fiola, Kevin Kreider and Payton Hazzard ran to a second-place finish in 7 minutes, 55.5 seconds, breaking a 32-year-old school record.

It is the fastest 4 x 800 time by a Long Island team this season and the second fastest in the state. Dickinson High School (N.J.) finished first in 7:52.8.

It was also a record-setting day for St. John the Baptist as its distance medley relay team of Matt Zampariello, Hunter Burrell, Seitu Solomon and Brandon Camenzuli took fourth in a school-record 10:20.14. The Cougars' time, which beat the previous mark of 10:27 set in 1980, is the fastest in the state this season. The time also qualified the Cougars for the indoor nationals.

Bay Shore's Dayne Savory took third in the 55 meters in 6.52, Kyle Howell of Manhasset was fourth in the triple jump (44-2), Uniondale's 4 x 200 team finished fifth in 1:30.74, and the Knights' Derrick Ingram finished fifth in the 200 in 23.16.

In girls events, St. Anthony's Olicia Williams came out on top in the 800, taking first in 2:10.61.

Bay Shore's 4 x 200 team finished fourth in 1:43.13, and Northport's Sara Ronde was fourth in the long jump in 18-1.
