Unions have led way for American workers
The Republican Party has shown its true colors in Wisconsin ["Wisconsin labor protesters refuse to quit," News, March 12]. Under the guise of solving its budget problems, it has essentially unleashed an all-out war on organized labor in an effort to destroy unions.
The American labor movement over the years has supported unemployment insurance, a minimum wage, Medicare, health care for all, child labor laws, and health and safety standards in the workplace.
These advances have helped all workers, both union and nonunion.
I thought collective bargaining was firmly rooted in our natural life, but I was wrong. It seems the Republican party is on the wrong side of history again.
