The 6th Grade Writing Club of Unqua Elementary School had a wonderful visit with the seniors residing at Mary's Manor in Inwood, New York.  Under the direction of club moderator Melinda Alford, club members have been writing throughout the year to their senior friends..  The students got to meet their penpals in December and again in June.  Each visit, the students were able to share a meal and special desserts they had made.  Students also entertained the seniors by playing their instruments and participating in a rousing sing a long, organized by music teacher Janice Abel.  In June, the students presented handmade suncatchers to their penpals, the cost of which was generously underwritten by Newsday's FutureCorps program.  All involved are looking forward to keeping the letter-writing going long after the school year is over!
