A Valley Stream public relations expert and blogger of all things of interest to mothers will attend a leadership meeting for mothers of color at the White House.
Karen Taylor Bass will join about 350 bloggers and celebrity moms from across the country at the White House Moms Briefing on Thursday, followed by a tour of the East Wing on Friday.
The event is part of the White House Black History Month program, according to officials of Mocha Moms Inc., a national nonprofit support group for mothers of color who have chosen not to work full-time outside the home in order to devote more time to their families and communities.
Taylor Bass, a mother of two, said such events are necessary because moms need inspiration, motivation and sisterhood.
“Oftentimes mothers feel isolated when championing a cause for their children, neighborhood, family, and when you have an event like this you realize that you are not alone and don’t have to be supermom,” she said.
Through her website, thebrandnewmommy.com, Taylor Bass shares news, advice and tips. She said she hopes to share the knowledge she gained after becoming a mother on how to reinvent yourself and take time to renew and redefine one’s personal “brand” after childbirth.
She said she’s also hoping to pick up a tip or two on self-empowerment and on how to balance motherhood with staying true to oneself while pursuing one’s passions.
“Mothers are a force and the ultimate litmus test of authenticity,” Taylor Bass said. “I truly believe that when mothers get behind a strategic mission, cause or agenda, magic and results happen.”
